2019 Honorable Mention Youth Award - Deer Park C.A.T.S.

The Deer Park High School C.A.T.S.have been working together for a little bit more than two years.  Under the guidance of Dr. Stace Orso, building principal, and Jason Spelic, school counselor, the student organization has accomplished a lot during their tenure.  With Deer Park being a small, neighborhood school district, the students realize that they can have a true impact on getting the message out re: substance abuse and misuse.  With the grateful help from Prevention First, the C.A.T.S. were one of the first groups to film an environmental scan of a typical student's walk to and from school and around their neighborhood.  They have also lead icebreakers at both Coaches, Kids, and Chemicals and the annual Youth Summit held at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens,.  The C.A.T.S. have also presented their work to aspiring coalition builders at Miami University.  This year, the C.A.T.S. have taken on the huge task of providing an alternative to destructive decision making by assisting with the return of an After Prom to Deer Park, an event that has not been around for years.  These students are truly a Coalition Advocating Teen Success.
