Screen Time and Health Outcomes
Learn how screen time impacts adolescent decision making, impulse control, physical and mental development.
This session will focus on the impact of device time on youth and young adults addressing general mental health, specifically decision making and gambling. Traditional forms of online gambling targeting youth will be introduced and the influence of emerging trends on social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok will be explored. Participants will learn how betting with Bitcoin and other virtual currency is almost undetectable by parents. Resources to help parents/youth influencers understand the risk and spot warning signs will be identified.
- Distinguish between the types of online gaming, gambling, and risk taking available to all ages
- Identify warning signs of youth problem gambling behaviors and the resources available in the State of Ohio
- Cite ICD research available on screen time addiction as a diagnosable disorder
