Another Successful Coalition Academy

October 26, 2017

This year's PreventionFIRST! Coalition Academy brought more than 140 committed community members from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana to the annual one day comprehensive prevention event in September.
Addiction Policy Forum President/CEO Jessica Nickel brought a wealth of knowledge and a powerful personal story of prevention in her keynote topic of "Advancing Prevention" in the face of any substance misuse issue. For more information about her Washington, D.C.-based organization, visit:
Other workshops included building coalitions in low-income communities, how to effectively engage/retain community sectors, engaging youth in community coalitions, understanding the relationship between public health and prevention, understanding the link between substance misuse and mental illness, the "Be Present" youth suicide prevention campaign, utilizing the Adverse Childhood Experiences survey, the Tri-Ethnic model's role in carrying out prevention and understanding cultural norms and how they impact prevention.
